Cabinet Hinge Repair

Has one or more of your cabinet doors fallen off, or become crooked? If you answered yes, then you should definitely contact me for cabinet hinge repair.

There’s a few common problems that can occur with European type hinges. You may notice that the screws are still tight, but the door still feels a little loose, or can no longer be leveled or aligned. Over the years the hardware gets a workout, the springs weaken, and the hinge just becomes worn. Because it not longer meets manufacturing tolerances, it can’t be adjusted successfully either.

An accidental lean on the door, or a hard close can be very effective for pulling the hinge screws from the cabinet. Once they are stripped, you will no longer have any success re-tightening them. If the hinge is loose or pulled completely from the cabinet, then that’s where I come in. As long as the hinge is still serviceable,  I can replace the wood in the cabinet so the hinge will have a new anchor. Don’t try stuffing the screw holes with toothpicks, wood glue, plastic wall plugs, wood filler, or anything else you found on YouTube. Only a proper wood plug inserted with instant setting glue will fix the problem, and stop it from coming back.

Whether European style, or regular hinges, my fix is the same for stripped screw holes. In addition, if you have a regular door with a similar problem – I’ve repaired many this same way.  If you have pulled the hinge from the door or cabinet along with a big chunk of the wood, you may need a cabinet maker, or consider a new cabinet altogether. Maybe anger management would help as well !
